André Heimgartner keeps form alive with another BNT V8s pole position

André Heimgartner has scooped pole position for race one of the BNT V8s at Mike Pero Motorsport Park.

The Australian Carrera Cup ace spent a large portion of the session lingering in the background behind the likes of Nick Ross, only to strike in the last portion of the session along with Richards Team Motorsport teammate Jason Bargwanna.

Nick Ross led in the opening stages, setting a 1:32.715 on a still greasy Ruapuna circuit. Heimgartner was in his wake, 1.3 seconds adrift.

As a dry line started to emerge, the times tumbled into the high 1min 20sec bracket. Ross still held the lead through the trrack transformation — times now led by a 1:27.897 from the Nissan Altima.

With 10 minutes to go the majority of the grid peeled off into pit lane for changes; Ross heading Bargwanna, Heimgartner, Australian Jack Smith, and Lance Hughes.

On their return to the track, Bargwanna took over the lead. This kicked off a bunch of changes, as Bargwanna, Heimgartner and Smith all exchanged the qualifying lead.

What settled the argument was a 1:26.331 for Heimgartner. From there he maintained his spot at the front; eventually lowering the mark to a 1:25.967. Bargwanna, Ross, Smith, Hughes, and Matt Tubbs rounded out the Class One entries.

In Class Two, Liam MacDonald and Chelsea Herbert will start from the front row, ahead of Justin Ashwell, Brock Timperley, and Bruce Verdon.
