Top 10 finish for Ransley and Vodanovich in Toyota 86 Racing Series

Jaden Ransley and Peter Vodanovich have finished eighth and ninth respectively in the Toyota 86 Racing Series at Mount Panorama.

An eventful race saw several incidents, some of which were able to help the Kiwi duo make headway in the six-lap opener.

Initially, it was Aaron Borg who led Luke van Herwaarde into Hell Corner. Further down the order 12th place starter Vodanovich climbed into the top 10 with Ransley stable in 13th overall.

A gearbox issue for Jason Bright saw the Supercars Championship veteran plummet down the field as he struggled to keep pace. That put Vodanovich into ninth by Lap 2.

Ransley was able to blow by a bunch of cars on Lap 2 at The Chase and usurp Vodanovich as well to grab 10th place while Vodanovich fell to 11th in the order.

An incredible sequence on Lap 4 saw Ben Grice, Tim Brook and John Iafolla nearly all come to blows.
The trio tried to go three-wide up to The Cutting, which resulted in wheel-to-wheel contact between Grice and Brook.

That sent Grice sideways and It looked like a crash was a certainty, but somehow Grice managed to gather his car up and carry on.

There was drama on the penultimate lap when Iafolla and Grice came to blows at Forest’s Elbow. Iafolla ended up in a spin and facing the wrong way and Grice pulled to the side of the road on the run down Conrod Straight. The incident promoted Ransley and Vodanovich up to eighth and ninth respectively.

At the front of the field, it was Aaron Borg who claimed a narrow win over Luke King and Luke van Herwaarde. Lachlan Gibbons and Tim Brook completed the top five. Declan Fraser, Dylan Thomas, Jaden Ransley, Peter Vodanovich and Jarrow Whitty rounded out the top 10. Further afield Andrew Jackson was 23rd overall.
