Billy Frazer is heading stateside having been confirmed to race for Exclusive Autosport in the 2021 USF2000 series.

The reigning national Formula Ford champion made the step up to the Castrol Toyota Racing Series this year, earning his maiden podium finish last round at Hampton Downs.

His time in the United States will be Frazer’s first major international single-seater competition. It puts him on the Road to Indy programme, with the end goal being a drive in the NTT IndyCar Series.

He becomes the first Kiwi to be on the USF2000 field since Hunter McElrea in 2019.

“I am super excited to have teamed up with Michael Duncalfe and the Exclusive Autosport operation for this year’s USF2000 series,” Frazer said.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge of racing a different car on different tracks in a new country.

“Heading to the States to race has always been a dream of mine and now that it is almost a reality. I can’t wait.”

Frazer’s move to the US was made easier by the partnership between the Toyota Racing Series and the Road to Indy project.

“Of course it is a very challenging environment for these sort of partnerships with so much restriction on travel,” said TRS category manager Nico Caillol.

“However, Billy represents a major success in the partnership and a strong show of intent from both ourselves and the Road to Indy programme that we want to continue to build this relationship and provide a pathway in both directions for up and coming single seater racing drivers.”

Frazer will be partnered by USF2000 returnee Christian Brooks for the 18-race championship, which has him visit iconic US circuits such as Barber Motorsport Park, Road America and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The first round of the championship will be in Alabama in conjunction with the opening round of the IndyCar Series over April 17-18.
