Dubbed the “Pink Panthers”, Racing Point have become known for their pink liveries since the introduction of BWT as their sponsor in 2017. Today, they revealed their 2020 challenger – the RP20.
The car was revealed at their season launch at the headquarters of BWT, on the shores of Lake Mondsee, Austria. After SportPesa withdrew as the title sponsor, one year into a multi-year deal, BWT subsequently become the title sponsor of the Racing Point team, hence the launch at the companies base.
In attendance at the launch was Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer. Speaking with Formula1.com, Szafnauer said
“This year we want to be a strong fourth, we want to be closer to the top 3 than we’ve ever been in the past, and top of the midfield. This year we want to take a step up.”
“It’s not that easy, the competition’s getting stronger, McLaren did a really good job last year; Renault with the motor company and the 650 employees behind them; even Toro Rosso with the work that Honda did.”he added.
Racing Point have retained Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez – who recently signed to stay with the outfit until 2022 – and Lance Stroll as their drivers for the 2020 season.
