American Formula Drift star Vaughn Gittin Jr coming to NZ for Leadfoot

It's been confirmed by Driven.co.nz that popular American drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr will feature at next year's Leadfoot Festival at Hahei.

The three-time World Drift Series champion and former Formula D champion will reportedly campaign a newly built RTR Ford Mustang, similar to the two cars that his team runs in Formula D.

Through various international performances, as well as strong connections with Monster Energy, Gittin Jr has become one of the world's most well known drifters. Most recently he was one of the stars of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, along with leading Kiwi drifter 'Mad Mike' Whiddett.

"I talked to [Gittin Jr] maybe two or three years ago, and each year since he's said it was on his bucket list," Leadfoot Festival organiser and former winner Rod Millen told Driven.

"I'm really thrilled! He's got a great presence around the world, of course including the US, as a three-time world champion. So, we're really excited to have him join us.

"I think it'll be different. He's been well accepted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, so I'm sure that will carry over to Leadfoot."

Gittin Jr is one of a number of drifters confirmed for the 2018 Leadfoot Festival, including Whiddett, Cole Armstrong, Darren Kelly, 'Fanga Dan' Woolhouse, and Shane Allen. Driven also confirmed that four-time IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon and motocross legend Josh Coppins are among the headline names.

Coppins will compete in a 2018 Yamaha YZ450, while Dixon will pilot a new Honda Civic Type R.
