Tom Alexander to race ECB SuperUtes Series for Ross Stone

Two Kiwis will team up in this year's ECB SuperUtes Series as young gun Tom Alexander gets set to drive for Australian-based team owner Ross Stone.

Alexander will race an SP Tools backed Ross Stone Racing Ford Ranger in the series, which is set to debut at this year's Adelaide 500 in support of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

Alexander is the first Kiwi to be announced to join the SuperUtes Series and the first Kiwi to receive major sponsorship from SP Tools since Shane van Gisbergen raced for Stone Brothers Racing.

Alexander has been in and out of racing cars in recent years. The young gun raced in the NZ Touring Cars (now BNT V8s) for several years, but never managed to win the title while he drove a Holden Commodore VE.

The SuperUtes Series is slated to race at the Adelaide 500, CrownBet Darwin Triple Crown, Townsville 400, Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint, Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint, Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 600 and Coates Hire Newcastle 500.

The series is made up of several utes, the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi BT-50, Holden Colarado, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max

Speculation in the lead up the championship launch has suggested 12 utes will contest the first round of the series in March.
