2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 images leaked

It was expected the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 to debut next January at the Detroit Auto Show but lo and behold, this is it.

The pictures first popped up on the Instagram page of ‘sinister_lifestyle’, who posted a snap of the mega pony car on stage at a Ford event, likely for U.S. dealers.

It’s hard to glean a huge amount from the image, but we can see a massive front intake with some styling edits around the headlights, a big ol’ carbon fibre rear wing, and what could be CF wheels. It looks like a GT350 on steroids, which is appropriate.

Power is expected to be sourced from a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine producing over 700 horsepower (522kW) and sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from the GT supercar to the rear wheels.

Hopefully, a manual transmission will appear too but it's unclear if Ford has a three-pedal setup that can handle the power. Some even say that power figure could reach as high as 770 horsepower.

The leak looks credible, especially put alongside early previews released by Ford—see below.
