D1NZ Pro-Sport Series joins ZEROCLASS Drift Matsuri line-up

Organisers of the D1NZ Pro-Sport Series have confirmed ZEROCLASS Drift will host and run the season opener at Drift Matsuri Spring Break this year.

The collaboration comes as D1NZ and ZEROCLASS Drift look at fresh new initiatives to bridge the gap into competitive drifting.

The D1NZ Pro-Sport Series will start at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park in Taupō over 16-17 November before heading to Trustpower Baypark Stadium in late February, Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in March and finally Pukekohe Park in May.

The calendar finalization comes after D1NZ National Drifting Championship organisers announced the provisional schedule at CRC Speedshow in July.

Drift Matsuri is one of New Zealand’s biggest grassroots motor racing festivals with events primarily at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park.

Now approaching its fifth year of operation, the annual Drift Matsuri is run by Chris Howard and attracts between 100 to 120 entrants for a two-day drift-focused carnival.

“I’m excited for the team and I to take the reigns with the first round of D1NZ Pro-Sport and lead the way into a massive 2019-’20 season,” Howard said.

“My love for drifting has always revolved around the grassroots side of the sport and huge track time, so to be able to associate a competitive element to the next Drift Matsuri will add an epic twist for all drivers and fans alike.”

Drift Matsuri will host and run the event with assistance from D1NZ judges and the grid team to ensure the slick running of the qualifying and battles.

It is hoped that adding another competitive element to Drift Matsuri may entice some grassroots drifters to join the competitive ranks at an accessible level.

The Pro-Sport Series is focused on keeping costs reduced with lower entry fees, a more relaxed competition environment with cleaner, clearer, elements of judging to attract newcomers to the competitive side of the sport.
