How the stats for 2020 finished

While local hero Liam Lawson may have not won the 2020 Castrol Toyota Racing Series championship, defending his 2019 crown, the majority of this season’s statistics were heavily weighted in his favour.

Lawson claimed five victories in his Turners/Porter Group car, a third of all races held and the most of any driver.

Demonstrative of his consistency over the year, Lawson achieved the most podium finishes of any driver, 10 from 15 races.

Lawson also blitzed the competition during the race as he accomplished the most fastest laps in 20202. The M2 competition driver clocking the fastest lap on 7 occasions – just under half of all races held.

While champion elect Igor Fraga ended the TRS season on 362 points to Lawson's 356, the Brazilian also finished all 15 races. Lawson failed to finish the feature race at Hampton Downs due to a mechanical failure whilst running in second position losing valuable championship points.

Aside from battles on the track, both Lawson and Fraga became good friends and worked well together, helping deliver M2 Competition the Teams championship for a record seventh time.

"The atmosphere has been really, really positive. Powerful as well, because we work together," M2 Competition boss Jonathan Moury told Formula Scout.

"They (Lawson and Fraga) were awesome, they thanked each other actually for the season, then wished good luck to each other, so that was nice to see. But it shows the respect they have for each other."

"They both work hard for it, they really want it. It shows on the track, but also in the garage. It's been incredible. Two really talented drivers."

Both Lawson and Fraga will reignite their rivalry in this year's FIA Formula 3, though this time they won’t be in the same garage.

Lawson will drive for Hitech Grand Prix while Fraga makes his debut with Sauber junior team Charouz.

The FIA Formula 3 season gets underway from the Bahrain International Circuit on March 20-22.
