Josh Bethune earns Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final berth

New Zealand Formula Ford Championship runner-up Josh Bethune has earned the opportunity to contest the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final in Italy.

Born in Dunedin and based out of Auckland, Bethune won’t race for New Zealand. After a dominant win in the Rotax DD2 class of the Stars & Stripes Open Meeting in Pittsburgh the Kiwi was given automatic entry for the Grand Final.

Bethune qualified a close second to eventual class runner-up Race Liberante. The 16-year-old dominated the racing, setting the quickest race lap each time on the way to winning all three heats as well as the Pre-Final and Final.

Bethune last year won the South Island Formula 1600 Championship and has junior class titles to his name. Earlier this year he made a move overseas to compete in the Formula 4 United States Championship for Primus Racing.

This year’s Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final is being held at Sarno Circuit near Naples, Italy between on 19-26 October.
