Liam Lawson wins race one of the Castrol Toyota Race series at Pukekohe to take valuable points after a troubling end to his last race at Hampton Downs last weekend.
The Young kiwi who qualified in P1 earlier this morning got a good start off the line but the Brazilian Igor Fraga’s start was better as he took the lead, Liam answered back quickly and re-took the lead, making some contact with Fraga. Tsunoda took advantage and also got past Fraga.
Liam has established a healthy lead when on the fourth lap, French driver Émilien Denner went off in turn four, out came the safety car. Denner’s car took damage to the front suspension and put an end to his first race.
The race is red flagged, while Denner’s car is recovered.
They restart and Lawson gets off to a great restart. Fraga is trying to find a way around Tsunoda he locks up and falls back in behind the Red Bull driver. Further afield Cohen and Collet are fighting for fourth.
