John McIntyre says he is ready to tackle another season of endurance racing.
The Nelson-based three-time New Zealand V8 race car Champion has been flying under the radar as of late, centring his team, GilbertsonJMR, around both the South Island Endurance and New Zealand Endurance championships.
“We, Simon Gilbertson and I, are focused on the South Island Endurance Series with our combined team, GilbertsonJMR,” Macintyre told Velocity News when asked into his 2020 motorsport plans.
“Bang for buck, Endurance racing is where it’s at in my opinion.
“We are slowly preparing the Camaro from our Invercargill base, ready for testing in August.”
In 2019, GilbertsonJMR prepared a 7.9-litre Chevrolet V8 powered Camaro to compete in the South Island Endurance Championship.
Amongst the Audi R8 dominance, the powerful Camaro became a crowd favourite due to its incredible roar, virtue of the car’s highly tuned engine package.
McIntyre will likely again come up against a stern competition of GT3 machinery, ranging from the International Motorsport’s Audi R8 LMS of Neil Foster and Jonny Reid to a myriad of Porsche 911 Cup cars.
GilbertsonJMR may be keeping close-lipped on their 2020 challenger, but expect some details emerging from the team regarding the Camaro’s development to be unveiled in the near future.
The South Island Endurance Championship boasts a three-round calendar this season, beginning at Teretonga Park in September.
