Road-going racer Radical Rapture revealed

British manufacturer Radical Sportscars have shown off their new road-going race car the Rapture.

Revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Radical Rapture is designed with both performance for the track and comfort for the road in mind.

Radical say the car will deliver an “unapologetic assault on the senses” with “race-bred DNA” offering an exhilarating experience.

The car is built to the United Kingdom’s Individual Vehicle Approval framework to ensure it is road-legal. The car is intended for the European market and can be homologated world wide.

The Rapture boasts a lightweight space frame chassis with FIA-compliant safety cell and crash structure. It also features high-downforce composite bodywork, complete with a bi-plane rear wing and double-tunnel diffuser.

Under the skin the car is powered by a turbocharged 2.2-litre RPE-Ford EcoBoost, which has been reworked by Radical Performance Engines.

A new turbo and air induction system has been implemented that allows it to put out 350 hp (260 kW) and 320ln/ft torque.

The engine is coupled to a six-speed sequential transaxle with integral Quaife ATB differential.

Zero to 60 takes just three seconds. The cars tops out at 165 mph (265 km/h) and weights just 765 kg dry.

Nik-link suspension system is optimised for both road as well as track use and is complete with adjustable dampers. It comes with 300mm (front) and 280mm (rear) brakes with 48-vane fully-floating disc brakes with four-pot calipers

For driver comfort, the Rapture’s cockpit incorporates two moulded racing seats, with integral headrests and multi-point harnesses. The sculpted dash offers an LCD display with data-logging functions as well as heating and a multi-function digital steering wheel.

“Radical has always been a business to push the boundaries; in developing Rapture, we listened carefully to our global customer base to ensure that whilst road legal, the Rapture remains an undiluted, out-and-out track car at its core,” Radical Sportscars CEO, Joe Anwyll said.

“We’ve distilled over two decades of motorsport heritage into the most focused, open sportscar possible. In Rapture, cutting edge direct-injection turbocharged powertrain technology and advanced underbody aerodynamics contribute to a unique package with electrifying performance.”
