Promising race-2 showing ended by technical dramas for Cassidy

Kiwi Nick Cassidy has failed to finish race two of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship weekend at Spielberg in Austria, peeling out of the race order with less than 20 minutes of the race to go with a technical drama.

Having started the race from 12th, Cassidy made solid inroads on the field, making his way into the top 12, then the top seven.

Cassidy found himself in a thick of several thrilling battles, as racing at the tail-end of the top 10 was populated by a number of key drivers, including Ben Barnicoat, Maximilian Gunter, and Cassidy.

After fading to 11th, Cassidy pitted his Prema Powerteam car indefinitely with a mystery illness. He was one of three cars to retire from the race. Ironically all three retirements were Toyota Racing Series (TRS) graduates; Cassidy joined by Arjun Maini and Pedro Piquet.

The race was also won by a TRS graduate, Lance Stroll delivering the bitter-sweet win to his Prema Powerteam squad. Race one winner Callum Ilott finished second, ahead of George Russell. Stroll's win sees him extend his lead of the championship.
