Marcus Armstrong tops the timesheets at Highlands

M2 Competition led the way at Highlands Motorsport Park on the first full day of Free Practice in the Castrol Toyota Racing Series.

The fastest times came in practice two with Marcus Armstrong the only driver to go under the 1:29-bracket. Liam Lawson was the second quickest 0.190 adrift of the Ferrari Driver Academy ace.

Petr Ptáček was third fastest for Giles Motorsport while Cameron Das (M2 Competition) and Raoul Hyman (Giles Motorsport) completed the top five. Brendon Leitch was sixth and the only last driver within a second of Armstrong’s fastest time.

There were two major incidents across the three half hour sessions. Russian driver Artem Petrov of M2 Competition crashed through the Southern Loop heavily, which required extensive parts repairs. Australian young gun Thomas Smith of Giles Motorsport also had an incident of his own.

Armstrong’s time of 1:28.926 put him over a second clear of the Highlands Motorsport Park lap record. The time formerly set was in the older FT-40 by Andrew Tang (1:30.517). The lap record can only be set in the race, however.
