Callum Hedge tops Toyota 86 qualifying at Highlands

Callum Hedge will start race one of the Toyota 86 Championship at Highlands Motorsport Park from pole position.

After the efforts to fix his car following a crash during Friday practice, Mitch Hughes didn’t make it out on track for the sole qualifying session.

Peter Vodanovich initially set the pace with a 1:51.965 around the 4.1km long circuit, but Hedge bettered that. Jaden Ransley usurped them both by taking the top spot with a time two tenths quicker than Hedge.

The field flew into pit lane for changes. With the session half done it was Ransley who led Hedge, Vodanovich, Arran Crighton and Connor Adam. In sixth was Connor Davison, an impressive start to the session for the 15-year-old.

Hedge headed out and looked to better his benchmark, but the young gun couldn’t best Ransley at the top time.

There was little in the way of changes on the board as the session progressed, until with less than a minute to Hedge popped to the top.

Ultimately, he stayed at the top. Ransley was second, Vodanovich third, while Crighton, Adam, Davison, Jordan Baldwin, Sam Right, Justin Allen and Brock Gilchrist completed the top 10.
