Callum Hedge conquers Highlands in Toyota 86 openers

Callum Hedge has continued his winning ways in the Toyota 86 Championship with a dominant win at Highlands Motorsport Park.

Second place starter Jaden Ransley got the hole shot into the bus stop chicane ahead of Hedge.

The field made their way through the first few corners without incident with Ransley just a few tenths ahead of the hard charging Hedge.

Race leader Ransley managed to hold Hedge at bay for the first few laps. The defense by the Christchurch-born driver was immense, but he couldn’t hold on and after three laps Hedge was alongside out of the Turn 14 hairpin and through by the bridge.

Ransley began to slow the following lap. Out of the banked Turn 10, Vodanovich blew by Ransley and got a move done before the Turn 14 hairpin. Moments later and Crighton was by too.

By lap five it was clear that Ransley had an issue. He pulled into the pit lane and was quickly on his way again without losing a lap.

Having dispatched Ransley, Hedge found a lead of over two seconds. That was the way it stayed, Hedge holding a healthy advantage over Vodanovich. Hedge’s CareVets Racing teammate Arran Crighton completed the podium.

Jordan Baldwin and Connor Adam were fourth and fifth respectively a few seconds back while Brock Gilchrist, Campbell Stewart, Jacob Cranston, Connor Davison and Sam Wright.
