Scuderia Toro Rosso-Honda reveal STR14

Red Bull-backed Scuderia Toro Rosso-Honda has lifted the covers on their STR14 for the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship.

As the name suggests, the STR14 is the 14th car built by the Faenza-based squad since they debuted in 2006 as a constructor.

This year sees a totally new line-up for the team. Pierre Gasly will race with Red Bull Racing while Brendon Hartley will take up a simulator role at Ferrari. That means Russian driver Daniil Kvyat will return to the Italian outfit alongside Formula 1 debutant Alexander Albon.

The new-for-2019 challenger shares some componentry with the sister Red Bull Racing RB15, primarily the Honda engine. Gearbox, rear suspension and some front suspension parts - together with electronic and hydraulic components - will also be shared technically.

Winter testing begins on February 18th in Spain.

Thailan-born British-based Albon said: “In general, the way I’ve gone about my career and my racing, is I never set any goals on anything.

“Every year, it was just each race, take it step by step, focus and race in that session - whatever it would be, practice, qualifying, the race. Just take it as it is.

“If you start setting long-term goals, you just put unnecessary pressure on yourself. I’m just focused on myself and let’s see how it all goes.”

Kvyat returns to Formula 1 after a year and a bit off the grid. He was demoted to Toro Rosso early in the 2017 season and was booted at the end of the year in favour of Brendon Hartley.

“We don’t know exactly where we’re going to be,” Kvyat said.

“Like everyone else, we are working hard to put the best package together and the best thing I can do for myself is to work as hard as possible on myself and on my performance.

“I believe in the guys in the team. They know what they’re doing. Me and my engineering crew will do everything we can to squeeze the maximum out of the package we’re given by the team.

“I think we’re looking good and I feel that everyone is motivated and focused. I can see that, and it gives me confidence for the future.”

Scuderia Toro Rosso follow Williams Racing and the Haas F1 Team to have revealed their cars for the forthcoming season.
