Formula 4 debutants Cockerton and Yardley qualify inside top 10

Taylor Cockerton and Ryan Yardley will start the opening race of the PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship from eighth and ninth respectively.

Former Castrol Toyota Racing Series driver Luis Leeds topped the session on a 2:02.1251 and will line up alongside last year’s Formula 4 champion Jayden Ojeda.

Ryan Suhle, Lochie Hughes and Antonio Astuti completed the top five. Jackson Burton, Josh Smith, Cockerton, Yardley and Thomas Smith rounded out the top 10.

Cockerton and Yardley were both 1.5 seconds adrift of the time set by Leeds, an improvement though on their practice pace. Cockerton had been 2.1 seconds away from practice pace setter Hughes while Yardley was a sizeable 10 seconds off.

Race 1 of the weekend gets underway at 12:55pm NZST on Friday. Race 2 and Race 3 take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
