McLaughlin, Coulthard set the pace in Practice 2

Shell V-Power Racing duo Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard have led the way in Practice 2 in this Beaurepaires Melbourne 400.

Following them was Tickford Racing duo Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters. Mostert led the way late in the session and looked odds on to have taken out the two practice session, that was until the two DRJ Team Penske pilots smashed out the top two times.

For Coulthard it was a case of running as late as possible and trying to get the car into the right window ahead of qualifying.

“It was alright, but you can always make it better,” Coulthard said.

“I’m always trying to find the next bit to make the car better. It’s great, there was a big improvement from session one to session two.

“I’m a lot more comfortable. We’ve got qualifying next so it should be a lot of fun.”

It was an uneventful session that saw much of the field go out on fresh tyres to see where they sat in the field.

David Reynolds completed the top five. Jamie Whincup, Nick Percat, Anton de Pasquale, Lee Holdsworth and Will Davison rounded out the top 10 running order.

Shane van Gisbergen was once again bogged down in 20th for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team.
