'Mad Mike' knocked out early in Canada, Aasbø takes win

Red Bull star 'Mad Mike' Whiddett was knocked out in the early stages of the latest round of the Formula Drift series, which took place in Canada.

It was a difficult weekend for the Kiwi, after crashing his 'RADBUL' MX-5 into a wall during Friday practice. But hard work from his crew saw Whiddett return to the track with an able car.

“What just unfolded here at Formula Drift Canada is a true testament to how amazing my team are. Literally only minutes to spare to get ‪RADBUL‬ back onto the start line for the fans and then have one lap to put down a score to get us in the main event,” said Whiddett over social media.

Ultimately wasn't enough to go further than the top 32 — the Mazda pilot knocked out by Aurimas 'Odi' Bakchis. Bakchis went on to finish third overall, behind Chris Forsberg and eventual winner — reigning series champion Frederic Aasbø.

Monster Energy's Vaughan Gitten Jr still holds the lead of the series, with Aasbø and Forsberg closing from behind.

The series regroups on August 5–6 at Evergreen Speedway.
