Holden focussed on Supercars but keeping eyes on TCR

Holden says their sole focus is on the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship despite Kelly Racing rebadging their Astra TCR cars.

The Melbourne-based on Tuesday confirmed they’d rebadge their Opels to Holden. Alex Rullo and Chelsea Angelo will race the two cars in the inaugural TCR Australia Series, which starts at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.

The move comes in a bid to bring the cars more in line with the Australian market, not too disimilar to the TCR UK Series that saw the Opel rebranded as Vauxhall. The Astra is currently sold by Holden in Australia.

Rullo’s entry will receive dealer support from AHG and McGrath Holden. However, it doesn’t mean that Holden are getting involded with the series.

“GM Holden are keeping an eye on the TCR series along with other Motorsport categories in Australia,” a Holden spokesperson said in statement to Speedcafe.com.

“We are excited to see how this series develops in its first year, however our current focus in Motorsport is 100 percent across the Supercars Championship.”

Holden currently back Triple Eight Race Engineering in the Supercars Championship and are in their final year of a three-year deal.
