Jaxon Evans joins Porsche for Bathurst 12 Hour

Porsche Junior driver Jaxon Evans has been confirmed to contest this year’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour with the German marque.

Evans will be part of a Pro-Am line-up in the 2020 edition, which will also feature David Calvert Jones (Australia) and Romain Dumas (France).

It will be a reunion of sorts for Evans. Earl Bamber Motorsport will run the team in conjunction with McElrea Racing who Evans won Porsche Carrera Cup Australia with in 2018. The team will run under the NED Racing Team moniker this year with backing from Porsche.

It’ll be the first time Evans has raced the second-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R, which will make its Mount Panorama debut in the 12-hour race.

He arrives back in Australia after a season racing in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.

“I’m very excited to not only re-join David Calvert-Jones but to team up with the experienced Romain Dumas and the Earl Bamber Motorsport crew for this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour,” Evans said.

“It’s the perfect way to kick off 2020 in the new 911 GT3 R. A mixture of new and familiar faces with some of the McElrea Racing crew joining the team will hopefully put us near the pointy end come Sunday.”

Earl Bamber Motorsport Co-Principal Will Bamber said their aim is high this year. The team are fielding two entries, meaning three wins are on the table: Overall, Pro and Pro-Am.

“We are really delighted to be adding a second car, with the No. 12 NED Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, for our assault at the mountain,” Bamber said.

“Not only will be pushing for the Pro-Am victory but the line-up of David, Jaxon and Romain, will hold their own in the overall standings too.

“It is a tough race as we all know and we expect another tight year of competition, so to have the support of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific and joining forces with McElrea Racing for this entry is fantastic.”

Based in the USA, David Calvert-Jones said he’s looking forward to this year’s race, which he believes they have a strong chance of winning.

“It’s great to be heading to Mt Panorama with Earl Bamber Motorsport alongside some key staff from McElrea Racing,” he said.

“We think this is a proven and successful combination and the Bamber crew certainly know what it takes to win at the Mountain. It’s great to have Jaxon back with us and a proven racer like Romain just rounds things out perfectly.

“After a great test in Kuala Lumpur recently, we can’t wait to jump in the car for first practice at the 2020 12 Hour and see what we can do.”

This year’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour takes place on 31-January-2 February.
