WATCH: Wild WTAC tyre blowout at 250 km/h

There were high hopes for Japanese driver Under Suzuki at this year’s World Time Attack Challenge, but those were undone by a high-speed crash in testing.

Suzuki suffered a tyre failure at 250 km/h on approach to Turn 1 at Sydney Motorsport Park. His Nissan Silvia S15 slammed into the inside wall, which resulted in heavy damage to the carbon-clad car.

A gofundme has since been set up to help Suzuki get back to next year's event.

Suzuki was airlifted to hospital but later released. Efforts were made to get the car ready in time for the weekend, but his car was too heavily damaged.
