Will Bamber wins in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia final

Will Bamber has claimed first and second place in the final two races of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season at Shanghai International Circuit, China.

Bamber went from lights-to-flag in the penultimate race of the season to claim a comfortable three-second win over nearest rival Martin Ragginger. Meanwhile, third place for Phillip Hamprecht secured him the drivers’ championship with a race to spare.

The New Zealander followed it up with a strong performance in the final, only narrowly beaten to the win by Ragginger.

“It was epic! The car was brilliant thanks to the EBM boys,” Bamber said.

“Lights-to-flag is always a good one. I thought Martin was going to come there for a while but we just held on there with the tyres and it was a pleasure to drive.

“It’s been a busy weekend, it’s good to get that one out of the way.”

Fellow countryman and Earl Bamber Motorsport driver Reid Harker was impressive in his return to the series.

In only his second round this season and his third ever, Harker charged through to claim fifth place in the penultimate race behind Cui Yue for his best result to date.

Harker wasn’t as lucky in the final, bundled out from eighth on the grid and dropped down the order to 14th by the end of the 12-lap affair.

With his double success in the final, Bamber claimed third in the Drivers’ Championship behind Hamprecht and Ragginger.

He now turns his attention to the FIA World Endurance Championship where he’ll debut for Dempsey-Proton Racing in the 4 Hours of Shanghai as part of the GTE-Am field.
