Formula E New Gen 2 EVO unveiled

Formula E has unveiled its new Gen 2 EVO car that will be used from next season.

The 2020/21 electric racer is a modified version of the current Gen 2 Formula E car, using the same chassis but with redesigned bodywork bringing a slimmed down appearance and an aim to improve aero.

While not radically different, so notable changes are a new front wing, rear wing and dorsal fin. Battery technology remains the same.

Another aim with the EVO is to make the cars more fragile to discourage drivers from making contact with one another, making the consequences for aggressive driving greater.

The introduction of the Gen 2 EVO comes as Formula E is now recognised as a world championship.

FIA president Jean Todt said that the new design was another step forward for the electric racing series which is coming into the series seventh season.

“The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is in only its sixth season of competition, yet the technology within it has come a long way, and can benefit all road users,” Todt said.

“It is this progressive approach that has contributed to the expansion of the grid and increasing competitiveness of the championship, which continues to go from strength to strength and which is paving the way for the future of sustainable urban mobility.”

The 2019/20 Season of Formula E features Kiwi drivers Mitch Evans in the Panasonic Jaguar Racing car and Brendon Hartley driving for Team GEOX Dragon.
