A week after announcing it will seize to compete in motorsport at the conclusion of the 2019/20 World Endurance Championship, Rebellion Racing has topped the practice timesheets for this weekend’s 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas.
The No. 1 R-13 setting a 1m49.957s with American Gustavo Menezes at the wheel, two-tenths clear of the No.8 Toyota Hybrid LMP1 of Sebastien Buemi.
However, both Toyota LMP1 machines are hindered by a success handicap of 2.77s for the No.7 and 2,72s for the No.8 TS050 Hybrid.
The Handicap, which was implemented prior to the start of the season, is aimed to level the playing field in the premier prototype division, preventing a hybrid-powered whitewash.
This weekend’s event only features a disappointing three LMP1 cars. The third being the sister Toyota Hybrid which ended the day ninth fastest overall, slower than the six quickest LMP2 cars.
Aston Martin got the better of AF Corsa Ferrari. The No.97 Vantage setting an impressive benchmark time of a 2m01.838 to finish top of the GTE-Pro class.
The new Chevrolet Corvette C8.R had a quiet day, completing 38 laps but was 2.4s behind the quickest lap time.
