Reid Harker secures drive for Earl Bamber Motorsport in the 2020 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Championship.
The Malaysian based Earl Bamber Motorsport (EBM) announced yesterday they have signed the young driver.
24-year-old Harker is no stranger to EBM, having worked for the team behind the scenes last year.
This is not Harker’s first time in a Porsche Carrera Cup car, in 2019 he competed in four races and two races in 2018. Harker has also provided testing for the team and driver coaching for amateur drivers.
When asked how does it feel to have a full-time seat Harker told Velocity News,
“Excited! I have been working towards racing full-time in Asia and this championship for the past couple of years, so for it to be a reality in 2020 with Porsche New Zealand and Earl Bamber Motorsport is very exciting and I can’t wait for round one in Vietnam. I have been out of a full-time seat for two years now, so it’s great to have this opportunity to drive on a more regular basis and build as a driver over the seven weekends.”
Earl Bamber told 1 News he plans to offer future scholarships “It’s a big thing to be able to give back to the sport.” he said, reflecting on his decision to start a motorsport team. Given Bamber’s success with Porsche he obviously sees potential in Harker to give him this opportunity.
When asked what his expectations are, given he will be running a full-time seat Harker commented…
“Honestly, I have no expectations. I’m confident in my ability and ready for the challenge ahead and have the best team around me to support my ambitions.”
Prior to working with EBM, Harker has been a NZ karting champion, he has raced in the BMW Race Driver Series, Castrol Toyota Race Series and in 2017 he was second in the Toyota 86 Championship.
“I have an amazing group of supporters who are making this dream on mine a reality and I look forward to introducing more to the team soon.”
