Russell Ingall ready to take on new TCR Australia challenge

Former Supercars Championship veteran Russell Ingall isn’t expecting an easy debut in the carsales TCR Australia Series.

Ingall, now 55 years old, will make his racing return in an Audi RS 3 LMS at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend.

A pre-weekend practice at Mallala Motorsport Park gave Ingall his first taste of TCR with the Melbourne Performance Centre outfit.

“The TCR car was everything I thought it would be,” Ingall said.

“It’s got a very good balance, the car’s power to grip ratio is very good and the package gives you a lot of confidence behind the wheel.

“In other categories of cars I have driven in you have the luxury of a lot of horsepower to bail you out of trouble.

“With a TCR car you haven’t got that horsepower, so what I like the most if you really have to get up on the wheel and drive it hard, it brings the driver back into the equation.”

Ingall won’t be the only ‘rookie’ at Round 3 of the series. Jordan Cox joins the series, but has some front-wheel drive experience – well known for his antics in a Honda Civic EG around Mount Panorama and the streets of Adelaide.

This weekend will see a 19-car field take to the circuit situated west of Adelaide. For Ingall the experienced head is ready to tackle the task head on.

“There’s no doubt The Bend is going to be a challenge,” Ingall said.

“If I went to a track that I know it would be a lot easier, I’ve got a taste of the car today but I can’t wait to get out there and race against a field of these cars against some really tough competition.”
