Triple Eight Race Engineering has confirmed they will look to contest the Suzuka 10 Hours endurance race this year.
Kiwi driver Shane van Gisbergen is likely to lead a Pro-Am entry in their recently acquired second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Already the team has committed to a second season of GT World Challenge Asia with van Gisbergen contesting five of the six rounds. He’ll be joined by His Highness Prince Jefri Ibrahim of Johor.
However, the Suzuka race is a one-off event for the team in the Northern Hemisphere summer that forms Round 3 of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
“We haven’t done an entry yet,”
Team Principal Roland Dane told Sportscar365.
“But we’ve confirmed in our own minds that we’re doing it as a Pro-Am entry with Prince Jefri in the car for a Pro-Am entry at the 10 Hours.
“The intention is Shane will be in the car.”
This year’s Suzuka 10 Hours takes place over 21-23 August at Suzuka Circuit, home to the Japanese Grand Prix.
With van Gisbergen rated Platinum by the FIA and H.H.Prince Abdul Rahman rated Silver, a Bronze rated driver will need to be found to run in Pro-Am.
Triple Eight Race Engineering is this weekend running in the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour with two Mercedes-AMG GT3 race cars. Shane van Gisbergen joins Jamie Whincup and Maximilian Gotz for the race.
