Toyota Supra set for SUPER GT in 2020

Toyota Gazoo Racing has confirmed the Supra is set to return to the Autobacs SUPER GT Series next year.

The Toyota GR Supra SUPER GT Concept was revealed at Tokyo Auto Salon where it was also confirmed the new car would replace the outgoing LC 500.

The Supra was raced in the GT500 division of SUPER GT for 12 years, the last time being 2006. In that time the Supra won the championship on four occasions.

Three-time New Zealand Grand Prix winner Nick Cassidy currently races for the Toyota factory backed TOM’S Racing outfit. Heading into his fourth year of SUPER GT competition, there’s a good chance Cassidy will be back in 2020 when the new car launches.

The new road-going Supra is scheduled to make its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) next week in Detroit, USA.

The highly anticipated successor to the ‘MKIV’ will be raced in NASCAR too in the Xfinity Series.
