Team 18 confirms expanded two-car operation for 2020

Charlie Schwerkolt has confirmed his outfit Team 18 will expand to a two-car team in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship next year.

Schwerkolt has acquired one of the two Racing Entitlement Contracts (REC) formerly owned by Kelly Racing. The other has been bought by Matt Stone Racing.

A REC is required to enter a full-time car in the championship and also represents an equity stake in the Supercars business.

Mark Winterbottom currently races for the team under the IRWIN Racing banner with a Triple Eight Race Engineering-built Holden Commodore ZB.

“I’m really excited to be able to share that we will be growing Team 18 into a two-car operation in 2020,” Schwerkolt said of the expansion.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now, I feel that the timing is right for the whole team and I’m really excited to have two cars on track and two garages in pit lane next year.”

A driver and sponsor will be confirmed in due course.
