Peter Vodanovich will make a one-off return to the SsangYong Rhino Racing Series this weekend at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.
Due to a work incident, the team’s regular driver Tim Dosset is unavailable to race the Crème Insurance-backed Ssangyong Rhino race ute.
Vodanovich returns to the series with stacks more experience since he last raced. More recently, Vodanovich has contested the Toyota 86 categories in New Zealand and Australia.
It’ll be a return to his racing roots of sorts for Vodanovich, who won the SsangYong Scholarship and began his trajectory towards the Toyota 86 Championship.
“When the call came in from Tim there was only one driver on my list, Peter Vodanovich,”Mark Mallard, Crème Insurance Managing Director, said.
“I have known Peter and have been a supporter of him since he started racing in his 2KCUP MR2 and then supporting him through his time as Scholarship Driver for the Ssangyong race series, and now in the 86’s Peter’s results have been truly outstanding.
“We believe Peter will not only put on a great show for the crowd but also look after the sponsors; Trail Lite Caravans, Velocity News, LoanWise, Pakuranga Automotive, Pakuranga Auto Transport, and Racer Products.”
Peter Vodanovich said: “I’m really excited to be jumping back into a SsangYong Ute this weekend.
“Mark’s a great supporter of mine so it’s cool to be racing for the Creme Insurance Racing Team. Although the cars are quite different to what I drive now, the race craft and technique needed to be at the front in the series is second to none.
“Winning the 2017-’18 SsangYong Scholarship during my first year of racing was a pivotal opportunity for me and I developed my craft a lot throughout that championship.
“As always I am super grateful to drive anything I can, but I think the competitiveness of this series, in particular, will keep me sharp and focused for the final two rounds of the Toyota 86 Championship.”
Peter will be pushing the limits of the utes to get to the front against current points leaders Todd Prujean and Murray Brook. The always fast reigning champion Christina Orr West, Kirk Stoneman will be challenges to the Crème team.
