Coulthard joins Team Sydney for 2021

Fabian Coulthard has confirmed he will race for Team Sydney in the 2021 Supercars Championship after he split with DJR Team Penske at the end of the previous season.

Coulthard was reportedly offered a co-driver role with the team, which for 2021 will feature an all-new line-up of Anton de Pasquale and Will Davison.

However, he pursued a full-time role further down the grid, finally confirming today that he has inked a deal with the Sydney-based squad.

“Joining Local Legends Team Sydney is an exciting opportunity for myself, I look forward to representing Local Legends, the city of Sydney, and playing my part in the development of their Supercar programme,” said Coulthard.

“I have a long standing relationship with the Webb’s, Jonathon and I have competed against one another since 2003 in various campaigns.”

Team owner Joathon Webb welcomed Coulthard’s signing and is expecting the Kiwi’s experience to help accelerate the progress of the team next season.

“I’d like to thank Local Legends and our sponsor partners for their continued support and involvement in the Team Sydney project,” said Webb.

“I’m excited to announce Fabian Coulthard is joining Team Sydney, his vast experience will enhance our efforts in moving forward within our extremely competitive Championship.”

Coulthard will race the No.19 next year, and it will be the first time in five years he will run under the Holden badge.

His place with the team silently confirms the departure of Alex Davison who came on with the squad during the Australian Grand Prix last season.

The team had a difficult 2020 campaign, finishing 11th in the team standings and ending the year without a single top-ten finish.

Fortunately for Coulthard, Team Sydney has strengthened its technical line-up for 2021 by signing Geoffrey Slater as its team manager.

Slater played a pivotal role in the team since 2011 where it raced under the Tekno moniker, helping the team achieve victories in the Bathurst 1000 and Bathurst 12 Hour in 2016.

“Jonathon, Geoffrey, and I have a clear direction for the growth of the team and we are committed for the long haul,” said Coulthard.

A teammate for Coulthard is yet to be announced. However, Autosport is reporting that fellow Kiwi Chris Pither is primed for second seat courtesy of his financial backing from Coca-Cola.
