Keeping up with the Kiwis, your guide to the action: August 6-8

Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin voyage into the unknown in Nashville this weekend for the Music City’s inaugural IndyCar street race.

Liam Lawson will be gunning to continue his impressive momentum in his rookie DTM season.

This weekend the young Kiwi is at the deceptively narrow Zolder circuit.

Meanwhile, Cormac Buchanan returns to the Red Bull Rookies Cup in Austria.

Here’s your guide to it all.

Scott Dixon & Scott McLaughlin

  • What: Big Machine Music City Grand Prix
  • Where: Nashville, United States
  • When: MON 9.30 am
  • How to follow: Sky Sport

The Nashville street circuit is the latest addition to the IndyCar series and this weekend’s first race is shaping up to be a thriller.

A grid of 27 cars is set to compete this weekend. It makes it the biggest non-Indy 500 grid for an IndyCar race in over ten years.

Nashville isn’t brand new to IndyCar.

Between 2001 and 2008, IndyCar raced on the Nashville Superspeedway.

For Scott Dixon, the Kiwi won the last three races there in a row, making him the most recent winner in the music city.

No one has ever driven the 11-turn street circuit, so this weekend could also be one of the best for IndyCar rookie Scott McLaughlin.

Liam Lawson

  • What: DTM
  • Where: Zolder, Belgium
  • When: R1 SAT 11.30 pm | R2 SUN 11.30 pm
  • How to follow: YouTube live stream

Liam Lawson has had a sublime start to his rookie DTM season.

A record-smashing win and two podiums has him second in the championship standings after two rounds.

His performances led Red Bull driver advisor Dr Helmut Marko to praise Lawson over the week, saying he has made an excellent transition to GT racing.

Zolder is a tricky and undulating circuit. It is very narrow and demands strong car control to punch out a quick lap time.

This weekend also marks the first for McLaren as Christian Klein makes the brand’s debut appearance in the new-look series.

The car of choice is a 720s GT3.

Lawson will be targeting another healthy bag of points this weekend, as well as slimming the points margin to championship leader Kelvin van der Linde.

Cormac Buchanan

  • What: Red Bull Rookies Cup
  • Where: Red Bull Ring, Austria
  • When: R1 SUN 2.30 am | R2 MON 1.20 am
  • How to follow: Red Bull TV (free)

It’s been a while since Invercargill teenager Cormac Buchanan was last riding with the MotoGP circus.

Instead, the youngster has been tuning his craft in Britain riding in the Honda Talent Cup, with some big success.

Now, Buchanan returns to battle against some of the world’s best.

To top it off, he is at none other than the home of the series at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

With only a few corners and three long straights, the Red Bull Ring promotes exciting racing.

So, expect to see positions determined by fractions of seconds across both races.
