Keeping up with the Kiwis, your guide to the action: August 13-15

Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans do battle for the Formula E world championship this weekend, with both drivers one of 18 still within a mathematical possibility of clinching the crown.

Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin are at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the latest round of the IndyCar Championship.

Meanwhile, Cormac Buchanan is back in Austria for the second leg of a back-to-back weekend of Red Bull Rookies Cup action.

Mitch Evans & Nick Cassidy

  • What: Berlin E-Prix
  • Where: Berlin Tempelhof Airport, Germany
  • When: R1 SUN 12 am | R2 MON 1.30 am
  • How to follow: Sky Sport

Win, or at the very least score big.

That is all Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy can strive to achieve this weekend.

The pair are seventh and eighth in the standings, Cassidy ahead of Evans and less than 20 points behind series leader Nyck de Vries.

A maximum of 29 points is on offer for both races this weekend, with points awarded in qualifying and the race.

The good news for our Kiwis is that they will be in Group 2 for the weekend’s first qualifying session.

The top five in the championship are in Group 1. They will deal with the worst track conditions of anyone in qualifying.

Last year, Evans raced at the Berlin circuit six times with a best result of two seventh-place finishes.

Scott Dixon & Scott McLaughlin

  • What: GP of Indianapolis
  • Where: Indianapolis Motor Speedway, United States
  • When: SUN 4.45 am
  • How to follow: Sky Sport

IndyCar share the schedule with NASCAR this weekend as the open-wheel category returns to its spiritual home in Indianapolis.

Scott Dixon has a strong liking for the Indy road course and picked up a win here last year.

He will be aiming for another weekend of cutting the points gap to leader Alex Palou, which he achieved at Nashville earlier this week.

After this weekend, four more rounds are remaining in the 2021 season.

Scott McLaughlin is firmly in the box seat to wrap up the Rookie of the Year award but still needs to push for solid results.

The Supercars champion has gone six races without a top ten finish, and he knows he can do better.

“I’ll continue to focus on just trying to be better and trying to put myself in better situations,” he said after the Nashville race.

It was, in fact, at the last Indy road course race where McLaughlin finished in the top ten, coming home eighth that day.

Cormac Buchanan

  • What: Red Bull Rookies Cup
  • Where: Red Bull Ring, Austria
  • When: R1 SUN 3.05 am | R2 MON 2.20 am
  • How to follow: Red Bull TV (free)

Cormac Buchanan didn’t have the best start to his weekend at the Red Bull Ring last weekend.

He fractured a bone in his wrist after a fall in free practice before withdrawing from race one with consequent pain.

However, he muscled through the weekend’s second race and shaved considerable time off his qualifying lap.

This weekend could prove to be the young Kiwi’s most profitable weekend, given it will be his first opportunity this year to race at a circuit he has already visited once before.

The majority of the European riders in the Red Bull Rookies Cup have already experienced the tracks the calendar visits, meaning Buchanan has to play catch-up.

After this weekend, there is only one more round of the season.
