Brown tops Kostecki for Darwin finale provisional pole

Will Brown has qualified on the provisional pole for this evening’s Supercars race at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway.

The championship leader’s 1:05.7066 flyer came late in the session and toppled former teammate Brodie Kostecki’s benchmark, earning the Red Bull the final run of this afternoon’s Top 10 Shootout.

Kostecki was the first driver of the 15-minute session to go under the 1:06 barrier with a 1:05.8971, and Will Davison followed suit shortly after.

Tim Slade continued Nulon Racing’s strong run of pace to split Kostecki and Davison for third, becoming the only other driver to go sub 1 minute and 6 seconds.

Wildcard Cooper Murray, who yesterday was the first debutant to set the fastest lap in a race since Greg Murphy, was impressive for fifth, ahead of Saturday’s pole-sitter James Golding.

Jack Le Brocq, Broc Feeney, Cameron Hill and Anton De Pasquale complete the top ten.

Matt Payne starts this evening’s race as the best-placed Kiwi in 11th and has Andre Heimgartner alongside on the sixth row.

Richie Stanaway starts from 15th, next to Jaxon Evans.

Walkinshaw Andretti’s single-lap pace was again an issue in the timed run, with Chaz Mostert to start 20ths and Ryan Wood 24th.

Cameron Waters qualified 19th, one place behind Saturday’s runner-up Mark Winterbottom.

The Top 10 Shootout begins at 2.05 pm before Race 12 goes green at 5.40 pm.
