Andre Heimgartner has the opportunity to fulfil a boyhood dream when he takes to the grid in the upcoming Formula 1 virtual Eseries.
Heimgartner will drive for the Renault DP World F1 Team at this weekend’s virtual Australian Grand Prix
The 24-year-old New Zealander was selected to race in the online series by Kelly Racing’s partner, BP-Castrol, who are also a major partner of the works Renault F1 Team.
The virtual Grand Prix which replaces the postponed Vietnam Grand Prix will be raced on the streets of Albert Park as the F1 2019 game, which the series uses, does not feature the Hanoi Street Circuit.
Heimgartner will be competing against a raft of the sport’s top drivers, including Scuderia Ferrari star Charles Leclerc, McLaren protégé Lando Norris and Williams rookie Nichoals Latifi.
“I think it’s every young driver’s dream to race in Formula 1 and to get to do it online against some of the best in the world will be something I’ll never forget,” Heimgartner said.
“I’ve got a bit of Eracing experience which I think will help, but it will be interesting to see how different it is compared to Supercars.
“I’m grateful to BP-Castrol for putting my name forward and hopefully I do Supercars and everyone at Kelly Racing proud; I’m looking forward to it.”
The race takes place on Monday morning from 8 am NZT and will be broadcasted live on Sky Sports and all F1 social media platforms.
