Marcus Armstrong was surprised to learn how unique Formula 2 cars are from each other after switching teams during the off-season.
The New Zealander is racing with the DAMS team this season. Last year, he made his rookie F2 appearance with ART Grand Prix.
All teams in F2 use the same Dallara chassis and engine, meaning there is a limited number of set-up changes available for drivers.
However, Armstrong says there was a noticeable difference between what he experienced in the ART car and his current DAMS machine.
“I was actually surprised at how different one car is to the next,” Armstrong told Velocity News.
“You have to adjust yourself to how the car suits.
“The way I was driving the ART car wouldn’t suit the DAMS.
“That was a bit of an eye-opener about how different each car is, even though they are the same.”
DAMS are one of the most successful F2 teams, having won championships as recent as 2019.
Armstrong acknowledged DAMS’ winning culture, and despite yet claiming a win with the squad, he says he enjoys the team’s atmosphere.
“I am around people with a drive to win,” he said.
“The team is never satisfied with a bad result, and they want to succeed.
“There is always something to find and do better. That is something I like about the team.
“They put their all in to win.”
Armstrong collected his first podium with DAMS at the last F2 round in Silverstone.
He is 14th in the driver’s standings with 12 races remaining.
DAMS is seventh in the constructor’s championship.
The next round of the championship is at Monza on September 11-12.
