Triggered by Matt Kenseth being hit from behind by Jimmie Johnson who then tagged an unfortunate Stenhouse, the incident resulted in an 11-minute red flag stoppage as marshals were forced to clear the the 0.5-mile track.
Ford’s Brad Keselowski would ultimately go on to win the 500-mile race after a crash between race leaders Chase Elliott and Joey Logano on the penultimate lap gifted the victory to the 36-year-old.
The next event on the NASCAR Cup Series calendar is the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Altana Motor Speedway on June 7.
