British Grand Prix: All you need to know

Championship leader Max Verstappen is aiming for his first British Grand Prix victory this weekend, with Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez hoping to close the gap to the top of the leaderboard.

Daunted by mechanical issues and poor strategy of late, Ferrari need a strong outing to maintain contact with Red Bull in the constructors standings, with the ever-improving Mercedes playing catchup.

Last years Grand Prix was a memorable one, with a lap one battle between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton seeing the former being put into the wall at a 51G impact. Verstappen went on to win at the track a week later, however this event was officially titled the “70th Anniversary Grand Prix” as the British Grand Prix was a week earlier.

This weekend plays host to Formula One, Two and Three as well as the W Series. Race weekend begins on Friday, with the main event of the British Grand Prix concluding proceedings on Sunday afternoon (Monday morning NZ time).

Kiwi drivers Liam Lawson and Marcus Armstrong will both be competing in Formula 2 proceedings. For the full schedule in New Zealand time see below.

Where to Watch

Formula 1 practice, qualifying and the race will be shown on Spark Sport, as will all qualifying and race events for the Formula 2 and 3.

The W Series race will be shown on Sky Sports 5 (055) at 12.25am on Sunday, with practices and qualifying all on Twitch.

Trivia

  • This is the 72nd British Grand Prix for Formula One, and the 76th overall. It is the 55th at Silverstone, with the remainder at Brands Hatch and Aintree circuits
  • Hamilton holds the record for the most race wins at Silverstone, with eight in front of his home crowd
  • If Hamilton fails to win this weekend it will be the longest winless streak of his career, at 11
  • Only Britain and Italy have held races in every calendar year since 1950 when the championship began
  • Ferrari have won the most British Grand Prix’s, with 16, two more than McLaren. Red Bull have only won it three times
  • In 17 races, British driver Jenson Button never won the British GP or stood on the podium
