For the fifth time, Scott Dixon starts the Indy 500 with a clear track ahead of him.
Dixon averaged 234.046 mph for his four-lap run in qualifying, breaking the previous pole position record set in 1996.
Dixon lit up the timing board in the Fast 12 session earlier in the day, earning him a spot in the top-six shootout for pole.
Last out on track for the shot at pole, Dixon didn’t miss a beat as he went four-tenths quicker than Chip Ganassi teammate Alex Palou en route to pole.
Rinus Veekay, who was driving at record-breaking speeds on Saturday, starts on the outside of the third row.
Despite having five Indy 500 poles to his name, Dixon has only won the great race one time back in 2008.
He won that race from pole but hasn’t finished any higher than fourth in races he has started from the front since.
All 33 qualified runners return to the track this week for practice before the green flag is dropped on Monday morning NZT.
