Far North Rally postponed until 2024

The organising committee of the Far North Rally have decided to postpone this year’s event until 2024 following the recent barrage of severe weather.

“The Organising Committee regret to advise that the Far North Rally scheduled for 27 May, 2023, will not be going ahead this year,” said spokesperson Marty Roestenburg.

“Given the recent weather bombs, road damage and flooding, we felt that from a community and resident perspective this was the best course of action for the foreseeable future.

“This decision has been brought about by factors beyond our control, which means that we are unable to run the Event that had been planned. Whilst disappointing, we are already looking forward to running a high quality event in October 2024 if possible.”

Due to the Far North Rally making up part of the 2023 North Island Rally Series (NIRS), organisers have had to revise this year’s schedule with the Hawke’s Bay Rally replacing the missing round.

“While we completely understand that the Far North Rally is no longer happening, we are very pleased to advise that the 22 July, Hawke’s Bay Rally will replace the missing round,” said spokesperson Rob Scott.

“Dependent of course on the devastation of the area and roads since Cyclone Gabriele’s impact, this will give the NIRS competitors five events to contest. We are grateful to the HB Rally organisers for welcoming us to their rally, which will also count as Round 4 of the Brian Green Properties NZRC.

“This also gives the North Island Rally Series the benefit of a better geographical spread and a wider variety of events.”

“Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all those badly affected by the recent weather Events, and we hope and wish for a speedy recovery,” Scott added.

The 2023 North Island Rally Series will get underway on March 19, 2023, at the Bothwell Loop Rallysprint in Glen Murray, Waikato.
