The New Zealand Landspeed Association (LSNZ) is gearing up for its highly anticipated annual speed trial event on Saturday, March 29, 2025, on Goudies Road near Reporoa.

This event offers a unique opportunity for automotive enthusiasts to test their vehicles’ maximum speeds on a closed, straight, and flat 7-kilometre/4.3-mile vast stretch of road.

Event Details:

  • Date: Saturday, March 29, 2025
  • Location: Goudies Road, Reporoa, New Zealand
  • Entry Fee: $450 (includes a $100 membership fee)
  • Participant Limit: Up to 45 entrants

Participants are required to submit a registration form and an indemnity form, both of which are available on the LSNZ website. The entry fee of $450 covers the event participation and includes the mandatory membership fee.

Email John Seccombe at john@flyingmile.co.nz for registration forms, payment details and further details.

Vehicle Requirements:

  • Warrant of Fitness (WOF): All road cars must have a WOF issued within three months before the event.
  • Tyre Specifications: Ensure tyres are rated for the speeds intended and equipped with metal valves.
  • Race Cars: Must present race certification or inspection sheets; if unavailable, provide a jack for front wheel inspection.

Participants are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are fit for high-speed performance.

“Feel the rush, Participate, and experience an adrenaline rush like no other; go as fast as you want, just you on a wide 7 meters flat 7Klm/4.3 mile of road, no risk to license,” said President John Seccombe.

“In the centre where we race, the surveyor said it’s absolutely level down to 20mm.

“Bragging stops here; see how fast you can go, timed by FIA/FIM approved electronic timing.

“We have seen speeds up to 377kph/235mph. Yours truly, at age 74, on a special racing motorcycle, the Kawasaki H2R, did 340kph/212mph.

“We even have a Police officer that races in his Nissan GTR and now signs off as the fastest PC in NZ.”

Spectator Information:

Spectators are welcome to attend the event. A donation of $25 per night is suggested for those wishing to camp overnight. The pit area offers free camping for participants, complete with toilets, showers and catering. Approved cookers are allowed, but pets are prohibited to ensure safety.

Safety and Conduct Guidelines:

  • No Smoking or Vaping: Strictly prohibited due to the forestry area and potential fire hazards.
  • Substance Restrictions: No drugs or alcohol are permitted before or during the event.
  • Age Restrictions: Children under 13 are not allowed unless they are immediate family members of a participant.
  • Participant Age: All participants must be 18 years or older.

These measures are in place to ensure the safety of all attendees and compliance with event regulations.

Directions to Goudies Road:

Attendees travelling from Rotorua should continue on Broadlands Road to Reporoa, avoiding State Highway 38 to Murupara. It’s important to note that the northern end of Goudies Road is a private, gated, and locked forest road with no public access. Instead, from Reporoa, navigate to 476 Goudies Road via Plateau Road. At the end of Plateau Road, turn left onto Goudies Road and proceed 2.4 kilometres to the pit entrance on the left, marked by a large barn. Participants must arrive at the pit area for vehicle and safety gear checks between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM.

Event History:

LSNZ has a rich history of facilitating land speed events. Notably, on March 9, 2024, Nic Cole achieved an impressive speed of 377 km/h (235.62 mph) on his turbo-nitrous Suzuki Hayabusa, setting a new benchmark for land speed racing on New Zealand roads.

“We had 36 entrants (2022), with some high-speed bikes, a few more doing well over 200mph, and records were broken, with an amazing fastest in NZ was Scott Wilkins on a heavily modified Kawasaki H2R doing one pass of 364.5kph/227.8mph backed up by a two-way average of 358.4kph/224mph,” said Seccombe

“We now have 12 participants in the exclusive 200mph club.”

The upcoming event promises to be an exhilarating experience for both participants and spectators, celebrating the pursuit of speed in a controlled and safe environment.
