Ajay Giddy of Silverdale became the 2025/2026 Mazda Racing Super Series champion at Taupō International Motorsport Park last weekend after a great season of racing and an epic finale with three drivers within four points of each other going into the final round.

Giddy, Stu Lawton of Paraparaumu and Callum Pratt of Auckland arrived at the final round all with a great shot at the title, but while Pratt and Lawton both encountered problems throughout the weekend, Giddy secured two wins and a third place to take both the overall title and also the rookie title.
It was his third round win in the six rounds that constitute the series, and the youngster, who only just turned fifteen on 17 March, said, “It has been a pretty
intense season. We were a bit rough at the beginning, but I managed to pull it together. It was pretty close for comfort at the end, but I managed to get the results at the final round.”
Giddy contested both the Mazda Racing Super Series and the GR86 Championship this year, a busy schedule, particularly at the two South Island rounds of the NextGen NZ Championship.
“At Teretonga Park and Highlands, I had double duty!” In fact, at Teretonga, Giddy chose not to start the last of the three Mazda races, opting to instead concentrate on the GR Championship. “I would have been on pole for that race,” he recalls.
Looking back at his Mazda campaign, he says, “It is definitely a good stepping stone; it is pretty similar to the GR Championship cars, it gets you familiar.”
Reflecting on the season, he says, “It has been awesome, and it has taught me a lot. I am pretty happy with the season. I have been getting results and getting lots of driving.”
