Jaxon Evans excited ahead of Tasmanian debut

Jaxon Evans will add another circuit to his long and illustrious resume when he makes his debut at Symmons Plains for the NED Whiskey Tasmania SuperSprint.

Evans’s debut Supercars campaign has been a big year of learning, and his first-ever visit to the Apple Isle will continue that trend as he targets a move up the field.

“I’m excited to get to Tasmania as I have never been there nor Symmons Plains Raceway before,” he said.

“It’s a pretty easy-looking track on paper, but I am aware it’s not easy when you’re driving it. There is a lot of emphasis on car placement, where you will require a few little tricks in the approach to turn 1 and the hairpin.

“The hairpin especially is exciting, but it can be a recipe for disaster if you get it wrong. It’s definitely the highlight of the circuit where there are a couple of different lines you can take, so I will be trying all of them in practice.”

With the championship reaching its eighth round of the season, Evans currently sits just outside the top 20 on the standings but has displayed plenty of promising signs throughout the year.

Now heading to another foreign circuit, the Brad Jones Racing driver will use the weekend to gain more experience in his SCT Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and focus on improving his qualifying positions.

“I will just need to make sure we figure out what works best for our package, and I’ll be doing so by bouncing some ideas off my teammates and engineers to try and maximise our package while continuing my research on the circuit as a whole,” he added.

“I’m always going into an event wanting to do the best that I can, and there is no certain goal or position that we want to be in this weekend – we just want to keep progressing.

“Obviously, Sydney wasn’t too ideal, but we are turning in the right direction, and I would like to make it into the top 10 in qualifying if I can, which will be good.”

Despite being one of the shortest circuits on the Supercars calendar, Symmons Plains remains a favourite amongst drivers, with the challenging opening corner and famous hairpin contributing to its popularity.

Evans enters the round fully recharged after enjoying a one-week break, having had a strong weekend in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS round at Queensland Raceway earlier this month.

The Repco Supercars Championship’s NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint takes place at Symmons Plains Raceway on August 16-18.
