Kiwi driver Tayler Bryant teams up with Jeremy Gray for GT4 Australia Finale at Hampton Downs

Monochrome GT4 Australia will welcome a new yet familiar name for its season finale at GT Festival Hampton Downs, with Jeremy Gray locked in for the round.

Father to current Silver Cup contender Rylan, Jeremy Gray will make his official series debut onboard a brand-new Toyota GT4 Supra Evo2 with Action Motorsport alongside long-time family friend and rising star, Tayler Bryant.

“I haven’t raced anything since Touring Car Masters in 2022 and have been watching Rylan for the last three or four years, so I thought it was just time to get in and enjoy myself,” Gray said.

“GT4 looked like a lot of fun with a lot of good people, which is why I picked that to return to.”

While this round will be Gray’s official debut in the season, it won’t be his first time in a GT4 car, with the New South Welshman having piloted an Aston Martin Vantage GT4 to a class title back in 2018.

“This won’t be the first time I’ve been a part of GT4 before. I raced in an Aston Martin GT4 when GT3 and GT4 were combined a few years back with Andrew Miedecke, and it happens that our two boys are now racing together, which is nice,” Gray added.

In addition to this GT4 success, Gray has almost a decade of racing experience in national categories, such as Porsche Carrera Cup, Australian Production Cars and Touring Car Masters, as well as multiple Bathurst 6 Hour appearances.

In 2010, Gray also took part in the Bathurst 12 Hour alongside Andrew Miedecke – a partnership that extended into the next generation of their families, with Rylan and George Miedecke racing together in the Silver Cup.

While Gray was a regular at the racetrack between 2008 and 2021, he took a small break from the sport to focus on the development of Rylan’s career, with GT Festival Hampton Downs to be his first event for a couple of years.

“Tayler is a young Kiwi who is a good friend of our family, so we thought we’d team up and have some fun. He’s got good knowledge of Hampton Downs, and I could probably learn a fair bit off him to try and get me up to speed as quick as we can,” Gray said.

“Watching Rylan has been awesome over the past few years, and I have picked up a few things off him, and although the reflexes won’t be as sharp as they once were, I still think we can have fun, stay out of trouble and get some results,” he continued.

“I’m looking forward to driving the Toyota Supra – it’s a very nice car, and I fell in love with it when Rylan won a trip to go to Germany to race GT at Nürburgring. That’s when I was first exposed to them, and I’ve just liked them ever since.

“It’s going to be quite special driving in the same field as Rylan because we are a racing family, and that’s what we love to do. We’ve always spent time together racing, so to be on the same track together will be a lot of fun.”

His Kiwi co-driver also has a good amount of time behind the wheel of a Toyota despite being towards the start of his career, with the majority of Bryant’s experience coming as a regular runner in the New Zealand Toyota 86 Championship since making the step up from karts in 2023.

“I am really excited to be making my Monochrome GT4 Australia debut – especially to be doing it with Jeremy. Having raced previously with Rylan, it feels like we’re bringing the family back together,” Bryant said.

“I was racing a GT3 Lamborghini a couple of months ago in the North Island Endurance Series, so I’ve done a bit of GT racing at Hampton Downs, which may give me a slight advantage over a number of other drivers.

“With that said, it’s kind of hard to get mileage for both Jeremy and I before we go testing. We’ll just have to squeeze as many laps as we can across the whole weekend to make sure we’re not on the back foot.”

“The Supra certainly seems to be one of the quicker cars you can have, and ours is a brand spanking new car – fresh out of the box – so it’s just about trying to settle into it as quickly as we can.

“Of course, we want to win the weekend, so as long as Jeremy and I can get up to speed as fast as we can, then I think there’s no reason we shouldn’t be in a good spot to get a good result.

“Right now, it’s just a one-off round, but if we do a good job and Jeremy wants to go again, we’ll look at trying to do the whole season next year and take it step by step.”

Gray, Bryant and Action Motorsport will make their official Monochrome GT4 Australia debut in the 2025 season finale at Hampton Downs on 31 October – 2 November.
