Lawson 4th and Cassidy 10th in the first practice at Norisring

Two Kiwis are competing in the season finale of the DTM championship at Norisring in the same team this weekend.

Lawson who currently leads the championship by 14 points, is joined this weekend by Nick Cassidy who is racing Alex Albon’s AlphaTauri themed AF Corse Ferrari.

In FP1 the times already surpassed the sub 50 second mark with three of the top four fastest laps in the session completed by the three drivers who are in contention for the title.

Max Gotz set the pace in FP1 with a 0:49.568 just 75 thousandths quicker than Lucas Auer with Kelvin Van der Linde in 3rd and Lawson in 4th just 1 tenth off the quickest lap.

Nick Cassidy seemed to have dealt with the pressure well and used his previous experience to his advantage finishing 10th with a 0:50.009 just 3 tenths down on Lawson’s time.

At this round the tight street circuit seems to have put the cars on a more even playing field with a lack of high speed straights which had slightly favoured the German V8s at previous rounds.

Lawson will have 18kgs of added weight for race one which will make it more difficult during the race and will add significant importance on qualifying.

How will the Kiwis do this weekend?

Here are how the drivers classified:
