Liam Lawson has no desire to return to the DTM championship after his controversial runners-up place this year.
The Kiwi rookie missed out on the title thanks to a combination of reckless driving and manufacturer orders in the season finale last weekend.
What unfolded vividly upset Lawson, leaving him wanting no longer to be a part of the championship.
“The Turn 1 incident for me was the most frustrating part of the whole weekend because the exact same thing happened in the first race and you’d think people would learn from their mistakes,” Lawson said on This Week with Will Buxton.
“But in the future, it’s not something I want [to do again].
“The way the season finished, no, it’s not something I saw coming or would like to be a part of in the future.”
Lawson’s title antagonists have since come forward with their opinions on the weekend.
Kelvin van der Linde apologised via social media for crashing into Lawson on lap one.
Whereas Mercedes have affirmed that their orders to swap drivers’ positions to ensure Maximilian Gotz the title is “part of the game.”
Lawson fell just shy of becoming the second rookie to win the DTM title.
Yet, despite what occurred in the last round, Lawson still enjoyed the season and his role with the new AF Corse Red Bull team.
“I loved the season,” he said. “I enjoyed my DTM campaign. It was so much fun. A lot different in many ways from what I’m used to.
“In a way, I felt like working with this team that I didn’t feel so much like a junior anymore, I felt like I was treated a bit more like a professional, and that side of it was awesome.”
Lawson will end his rookie Formula 2 season later this year before taking part in the Formula 1 young drivers test with AlphaTauri.
He will do another F2 campaign in 2022 before being evaluated for an F1 seat ahead of 2023.
