Jack Le Brocq pipped Supercars championship leader Will Brown to top the timing sheets in third practice for the Sandown 500.

The Erebus #9 Camaro driver set a best lap of 1m 08.2772s on his seventh of 17 laps completed, bettering the practice and qualifying lap record of 1m 08.4550, set by Brodie Kostecki in 2023.

Five other drivers also eclipsed Kostecki’s record, including Brown, who was only 0.0394 seconds off Le Brocq.

Andre Heimgartner was the fastest Kiwi overall in third, one-tenth behind Brown and 0.0285 seconds ahead of Richie Stanaway, who impressed in fourth.

Broc Feeney was fifth fastest, ahead of Thomas Randle, who shared his #55 Mustang with co-driver Tyler Everingham in the 30-minute session for all drivers.

Kostecki, Chaz Mostert, Cam Waters and Matt Payne completed the top ten, with the latter less than three-tenths off the leader’s time.

Ryan Wood shared the #2 WAU Mustang with Fabian Coulthard and completed 18 laps to go 16th quickest, while Jaxon Evans was 24th.

Two further practice sessions await on Saturday, the first at 11.55 am NZST and the final at 2.05 pm. Qualifying starts at 4.15 pm, ahead of the Top 10 Shootout at 7.25 pm.

The 2024 Sandown 500 begins at 4.05 pm NZST on Sunday.
